Pee Wee Blue visits the Ronald McDonald House 3/3/08
Members of the Pee Wee Blue team went to the Ronald McDonald in Baltimore last night to complete our community service project.

The team was able to raise $1,502 through our sponsorship drive. Special thanks goes to Mason Lichliter, who raised over $500 by himself. Those monies were used to purchase items for the house such as XBox 360, XBox accessories and games such as Guitar Hero, NHL 08, Madden 08 and others. Additionally we were able to purchase a combo color printer, copier, fax and scanner, and 15 DVD movie titles for the house.

Last night, Pee Wee Blue was represented by Timmy Carson, Connor DuBois, Brendan Dwyer, Mason Lichliter, Michael Schahfer, Bruce Stachitas and Griffin Stulman. The boys served ice cream sundaes to several of the kids and families that are staying at the Ronald McDonald House. After serving ice cream, the boys spent time playing ping pong, air hockey, pool and video games with several of the kids in the house.

A good time was had by all!

Pee Wee Blue Community Service Project 1/18/08
Pee Wee Blue will be beginning its community service project this weekend. The project is designed to get us involved in the community in which we live and to help raise monies for those less fortunate than ourselves.

This project is being organized and led by team parent Kelley Dubois. Kelley is being assisted by team parents, Karen Seiferth and Katherine Schahfer. If you have any specific questions about the project described below, please direct them to Kelley at kcdubois@comcast.net .

The project we will be working on is to help raise monies for the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House is a temporary residence in proximity of a medical institution that allows families to stay together while the children receive treatment. Many of these children are seriously ill or injured and the situation is catastrophic to their families. As part of this project we will also schedule an outing to the Ronald McDonald House to spend time with the kids at a meal or just at play. That visit is being finalized, but will be one evening in early March. Our fundraising will focus on the purchase of some items for the house’s wish list.

In order to fundraise for this event, we will be asking all team members to secure pledges from friends, family and others for our cause. The sponsor’s will be asked to contribute an amount for every goal, assist and save the team makes from January 19th through February 18th. This period will encompass 10-12 games (depending upon our performance in the Chicago tournament. We have been averaging a total of 24 shots, assists and saves per game so far this year. Therefore a 10 cent pledge would result in approximately a $24.00 donation if we average 24 for 10 games. Of course if the donor just wants to pledge a lump sum, then that is ok too.

All donation checks should be made payable to the Tri-City Eagles and this will allow the donor to take a tax deduction for the donation. I will be handing out pledge forms at our game on Saturday. I look forward to tallying the numbers for this very special project. And a great thanks goes out to Kelley, Karen and Katherine for working on this project.

Let’s Go Eagles!

Capitals Youth Hockey Shoot Out 10/15/07
This past Saturday Pee Wee Blue team members, Stephen Latona (goalie) and Brendan Dwyer (defenseman), participated in the Washington Capitals annual shootout competition preliminary rounds at the Capitals Kettler Ice Rink practice facility. Representing this year's Tri-City Pee Wee AA team, Stephen and Brendan finished second in the double elimination competition and have won the right to participate in the finals and win it all. Stephen and Brendan will be proudly wearing Tri-City colors as they go for the gold between periods at the Washington Capitals vs. Ottawa Senators NHL game on January 15, 2008 at the Verizon Center. Let's turn out in support of Stephen, Brendan and the Tri-City Eagles organization at the CAPS game. Congratulations Stephen and Brendan on a job already well done!

CBHL Pee Wee AA Division Details 9/17/07
This year the CBHL Pee Wee AA Division has its largest field ever with 13 teams. The CBHL Jamboree is over and declarations are in. The Pee Wee AA Division consists of TCE Pee Wee Blue and Ashburn 95s & 96s, Bowie, Chesapeake, Frederick, Greater Hampton, Howard, Montgomery, Prince William, Reston #1 & #2, and Richmond.

We will have 22 league games on our schedule, including 11 of those at home. As one of only six Maryland teams in the division, we will spend a good deal of time in Northern Virginia and points south. We have the possibility of trips to Greater Hampton (tentatively scheduled for 2/2 & 2/3), Richmond, Dale City, Ashburn (twice) and Reston (twice). With 13 teams and 22 league games, we won't play everybody twice. Hopefully we will get a travel break on the team we don't play twice.

Look me on I-95!

Pee Wee Blue Goes to Princeton 7/23/07
Pee Wee Blue will make the trip up to Princeton, NJ to cheer the Princeton Tigers Men's Hockey team as it competes against Ivy Legaue rivals Dartmouth and Harvard. The Tigers have a two game home weekend scheduled for January 4th and 5th, 2008 and we will be there! The college games will be played in fabulous Baker Rink on the campus of Princeton University. Built in 1921, the rink has undergone major renovations to transform it into a modern facility , while retaining the charm of its original architecture. As many of you know, this is the very same facility where our very own Coach Sherman played his college hockey.

We will have accomodations near campus for Friday, January 4th and Saturday, January 5th. In addition to the two college games on Friday and Saturday nights, the team is lined up to play two non-league games against some tough Tier II "AA" competition from the New Jersey Youth Hockey League on Saturday and Sunday.

Tri-City Eagles Annual Organizational Off-Ice Afternoon 7/11/07
The annual Tri-City Eagles Organizational Off-Ice Afternoon program has been scheduled for Sunday, September 23, 2007, from 2-5 PM. This program is for both parents and players. The parents and the players will be separated in order to simultaneously attend various classroom sessions. The classroom sessions will include such topics as scheduling life around the rigors of travel hockey and comittments to school and family; sports nutrition (usually the best session); referees and rules; head injuries (prevention, diagnosis and treatment); team and individual goal setting; etc. Please plan on attending this activity with at least one parent and the player.

Team Skating Camp Announced 6/26/07
Let's get ready for the start of the season!

Pee Wee Blue is pleased to announce a 3 day skating camp for the entire team at the Gardens Ice House:

Friday, August 24 - 90 minutes of ice time with a local power skating teacher
Saturday, August 25 - 140 minutes of ice time
Sunday, August 26 - 90 minutes of ice time

Be prepared to work hard. The skating drils learned at this 3 day camp will make up the skating portion of our practice program for the year.

Team Travel Information for 2007 - 2008 6/12/07
Our plans for the coming season are starting to come together. The following is our planned tournament schedule as of June 1, 2007. It is always possible some of this may change, but I don’t anticipate any changes at this point. The tournament schedule (with links to additional information) is as follows:

August 31 – September 3, Labor Day Pre-season Tournament at IceWorks in Aston PA
November 24-26, Thanksgiving – Silver Sticks regional qualifying (home)
December 7-9 or 14-16, Lake Placid, with Canadian Hockey Enterprises.
February 16-19, President’s Day Weekend with Advance Tournaments in Chicago, IL
March 14-16, Congressional Spring Classic with Advance Tournaments in Reston, VA

I am also pleased to note that Tri-City’s Squirt Gold team will be traveling with us to both Lake Placid and Chicago. This is especially great because this squirt team has four siblings that play on our team. It will be wonderful to be able to keep the families together for these trips.

In addition to the tournament travel schedule we will be looking to schedule a weekend of non-league games in the Princeton, NJ area sometime during January, 2008. This is intended to coincide with the Princeton Tigers home hockey schedule, so we can see a game or two in fabulous Hobey Baker Rink on the campus of Princeton University (Coach Sherman’s alma mater).
